Replacing a Product Variant in Revit

How to replace an existing product variant instance in a Revit project by modifying its current configuration values either generating a new variant or utilizing a previously generated variant.

The Informed Design replace command, is used to modify a previously placed variant instance.

The replace command is found on the Informed Design tab.

Launch the command first, then select the variant instance, or select the instance first and then launch the command.

The replace command allows changes to the current product model release. The input parameter values or the active model state representation.

Choosing the change release command will expose the available list of approved releases.

Please note that changing to a different release may adjust the list of available input parameters and model state representations.

Any number of input parameters can be modified within the replace command.

Similar to the initial variant placement process, The same input form and input rules are applied to ensure that only valid combinations of values are allowed.

The representation can be switched to any valid Inventor model state. To adjust the model geometry displayed by the variant.

Choose the representation and then the small x button to return to the primary editing window.

Once all the modifications have been made, click on the apply button to initiate the change.

If this particular configuration has already been generated as a variant, the replacement should occur quickly.

However, it can take up to several minutes to generate a new variant.

Verify the replaced variant is correct. Or make any additional modifications as required.

Once satisfied, close the replace command.

The replace command must be relaunched to modify additional placed variants one at a time.

In summary, the replace command allows modifications to a previously placed instance by allowing updates to the applied product release, the input parameter values, and the geometric representation.

New variants can be generated with new configuration values within the replace command.
