Informed Design for Revit - get started with Informed Design content
Describe the advantages for using Inventor product definitions through the Informed Design add-in for Revit.
Step-by-step guide
The Autodesk Informed Design Add-in for Revit allows designers to use products with constraints defined by the manufacturers in their design models.
In the past, manufacturers encountered difficulties sharing product model information directly from Inventor. Often, products had to be remodeled in Revit from scratch.
With Informed Design, published Inventor product definitions can be loaded directly into Revit.
- Product definitions contain predefined Inventor content with applied product rule sets.
- Allows the configuration of the product to suit specific design requirements.
- Still respects design parameters set by the product manufacturer.
- Avoids the process of creating design elements from scratch for the Revit model.
In the example below, staircases and balconies need to be added into a room in a building model:
Note: The plan view is active, but it is often helpful to create a section view as well.
When the Informed Design Add-in is installed, the Informed Design tab is added to the Revit ribbon.
- Open the Informed Design tab.
- Click Product to insert products from the manufacturer as loadable Revit families (.rfa files).
- Click Replace to configure replacement variations for any already placed instances of Informed Design Revit Families.
