Step-by-step guide

A waste water event describes the daily pattern of domestic waste from one or more subcatchment populations. Similar trade waste events are used for industrial waste. The main difference between the two is that the waste water event describes per capita flow, and the trade event describes flow from a single source. This tutorial imports and views both trade and waste water events.

Before importing event files, it is a good idea to create a new model group to store all event data.

  1. From the Explorer window, right-click the existing Model Group and select New InfoWorks > Model Group.
  2. In the New Name - Model Group popup, name the group "Ancillary Files".
  3. Click OK.

To import a waste water event:

  1. From the Model Group, right-click the Ancillary Files group and select Import InfoWorks > Waste water > from event file.

  1. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the folder with the downloaded files for this tutorial.
  2. Select Wastewater Profile.wwg.
  3. Click Open.
  4. In the Model Group, Ancillary Files group, double-click Wastewater Profile to open the Wastewater Profile Editor.

On the Common tab, note the Per Capita Flow of 246 liters per day.

  1. In the Description drop-down, select 2 Combined.

The Per Capita Flow changes to 200 liters per day.

  1. Switch to the Profile tab and note that the factors vary throughout the day to represent the daily variation in population flow.
  2. From the Calibration/Design Profile drop-down, switch to the weekend, monthly and design profiles.

In the Wastewater Profile Editor, Profile tab, which displays data for the selected profile in both a table and in graphical form, the Calibration/Design Profile drop-down is expanded.

  1. Close the Wastewater Profile Editor.

The trade waste profile works in the same way as the wastewater profile. However, instead of defining a population and per capita flow, the flow rate is defined directly in the subcatchment.

To import a trade waste profile:

  1. From the Model Group, right-click the Ancillary Files group and choose Import InfoWorks > Trade waste > from event file.

  1. In the Open dialog box, select Trade Profile.twp.
  2. Click Open.
  3. In the Ancillary Files group, double-click Trade Profile to open the Trade Profile Editor.

  1. On the Common tab, expand the Description drop-down, where you can choose from three profiles that contain the data for three different times of day, such as a Normal Office Hours profile. For this example, leave the 24h Continuous Profile selected.

Notice the Flow Scaling Factor is set to 1. Also, any needed water quality parameters can be set here.

  1. Click the Profile tab to see the data for the selected profile in both a table and in graphical form.

  1. Close the Trade Profile Editor.
