Step-by-step guide

The InfoWater Pro Scheduler can assist in selecting cost-effective pumping policies to reduce operational costs and provide more reliable operations. Once the Input Data—Control Groups, Source Costs, Constraints, and Options are defined—the Scheduler optimization routine can be run.

  1. From the Scheduler Run menu, click Start.

In the Scheduler app, Input Data view, the Run menu expanded, with Start selected and highlighted in red.

While the Scheduler run is in progress, the status of the simulation is reported in the Simulation view.

During the trial progress, the Simulation view also displays the current pump scheduling costs and any violations of system constraints in the optimized solution.

  1. Make note of current penalties, as adjustments may be needed before re-running the optimization simulation.

The simulation is complete when the traffic light turns green.

The Message Board displays a message upon successful completion of the simulation, or any pertinent error messages. If the simulation run is unsuccessful, a message explains what needs to be corrected in the Input Data.

After completing a successful Scheduler run, the Output Report view is available:

  1. From the View menu, select Output Report.

The Control Schedule reports the simulation time and status of pump, valve, and pipe elements during the optimized schedule.

The Scheduler, Output Report view, with Pump selected under the Control Group category, highlighted in red, and in the dialog box, the schedule of the first element in the pump control group.

  1. Switch to the Detail tab to see schedules for each individual element included in a Scheduler control group.

In the Scheduler, Output Report view, the Detail tab selected and highlighted in red, and under Pump, P-140 selected to display its schedule.

  1. Click the Main tab to return to all categories.
  2. Under Constraint, select an item, such as Tank Level, to view constraints, numerical results, and infractions from the last successful simulation.

The maximum violation is the amount over the maximum allowed—for example, the max velocity for the simulation minus the specified max velocity constraint equals the max velocity violation. To limit violations, consider increasing the penalty weighting factors, as needed.

In the Scheduler, Output Report view, all items in the Constraint category highlighted in red, with Tank Level selected to display the relevant Constraint report.

  1. Click Summary to view the Summary report, including optimization input, settings, and results.

Cost breakdown and constraint violations can also be reviewed. Often, the results seen here are used to adjust the weighting in the Scheduler options before an optimization is performed again.

In the Scheduler, Output Report view, the Summary category selected and highlighted in red, and in the dialog box, the Summary report.
