Designer simulations and output report

In the Designer app, once the Input Data is set up—including Groups, Actions, Constraints, Operating Conditions, and Options—the optimization routine can be run.

Simulation

From the Run menu, click Start, or click the Run button. The Designer automatically switches to the Simulation view.

• While the Designer run is in progress, the status of the evaluation is reported under Trial Progress.
• The Performance for Current Generation area displays the performance costs and violations for the current option being tested.
• Under Simulation Performance, the best solution currently found can be viewed.
• Look for messages in the Message Board. This area shows a notification upon successful completion of the activated commands or any errors pertinent to the simulation.
• If the simulation run is unsuccessful, a description appears explaining what needs to be corrected in the Input Data.

Output Report

The Output Report view is available after completing a successful Designer run.

• The Summary report displays the simulation run status, the cost associated with the best solution reached, and maximum values for any boundary constraints exceeded.
• It also shows any penalty cost levied from exceeding boundary constraints, and the total length of all the pipes affected by the findings of the Designer run.
• Ideally, no penalty costs would appear in the Summary report. If there are values in the Penalty Cost column, investigate to see where to increase the penalty multipliers in the Input Data, and then rerun the simulation.

Depending on how many solutions requested in the Designer Options, detailed reports for each solution can be viewed.

These reports are broken down into the same groupings as the Input Data. View details on individual pipes, pumps, and tanks. Look through these reports for Designer recommendations and potential violations.
