In
00:04
the railing tool is often used to
00:06
create objects other than handrails and balustrades,
00:10
linear repeating objects such as solar shading fencing barriers and
00:15
even hedges are often created using the railing tool.
00:19
This is made possible by the ability to host
00:22
railings on objects other than stairs and ramps.
00:26
And we'll start by placing a fence along the line
00:28
of the wall here at the top of the site.
00:31
As there's a large change in level,
00:33
we need this fence to prevent anything from accidentally falling over.
00:38
It will be easier to create the rolling in a plan view.
00:41
So from the project browser, we'll open up the site plan view.
00:45
Now zooming into the top of the screen,
00:47
we can see the walls where we need to place the fence.
00:51
So to do this, we'll go to the architecture ribbon tab from the circulation panel
00:56
or click on the rail in tool.
01:00
Looking at the type selector,
01:02
we can see that we have the fencing post and
01:04
boards type active and this is the one we'll use
01:08
and looking below this, we can see the base level parameter is set the first floor.
01:12
So we'll click on and we'll change this to second
01:14
floor as that coincides with the top of the wall,
01:19
looking at the create rolling path ribbon if the lines gets tall labeled.
01:23
So I'm gonna change this to be the pick lines tool.
01:26
And now
01:27
we can zoom in a little here and just click on the
01:30
center line of the walls to trace those for our railing path.
01:36
Looking at the vertical line here,
01:37
we can see this extends the entire length of the wall.
01:40
So we need to trim this back a little.
01:42
So from the modify ribbon tab on the modify panel
01:45
which use the trim extend single element to
01:49
and now we'll zoom in and we'll click this edge of the mall here as the boundary
01:55
and then we click on the top side of the line here,
01:58
I stood side to keep.
02:02
So now let's trim that off to the right side.
02:05
Looking at the sketch line that follows down the slope of the wall.
02:09
We can see this goes right to the very end of the wall
02:12
and we need to just drag this back a little.
02:14
So we can see we have the control at the end of the line.
02:16
So we just drag this back slightly.
02:19
And now once we've released it,
02:21
we can edit the temporary dimension to be exactly six inches.
02:28
So now that we have those sketch lines created,
02:30
we'll click finish edit mode to create the road in
02:33
straight away, we can see that created in the plan. We can see the post here,
02:37
we'll swap back to the site 3d view.
02:40
And here we can see the railing following the
02:41
line of the wall up at the second floor level
02:45
and we actually now need it to follow the slope of the wall.
02:48
So to do this with the rain selected,
02:51
we'll go to the modify rains
02:52
ribbon tab
02:53
and from the tools panel here, we'll click pick new host.
02:56
And now we just need to click on the wall
02:59
straight away. We can see that fence follow the slope of the wall down,
03:03
zooming into the top of the slope. Here,
03:06
we can see that where it changes angle,
03:09
the actual balls themselves also kink and this isn't a realistic situation
03:14
so we can edit the railing path to fix this.
03:18
So I swap back to the site plan view.
03:20
And now with the railings selected
03:22
from the modified railings ribbon,
03:24
we'll click edit path
03:27
and we can see that this is one continuous sketch line along this wall here.
03:31
And actually what we need to do is to break it
03:33
at the change of angle for the post to be created.
03:37
So we'll go up to the modify ribbon and from the modify panel,
03:40
we'll click the split element tool.
03:42
Now zooming in,
03:43
we just need to click on the sketch line at the location here
03:47
where it changes angle and then that line will be split into two.
03:50
So now having done that, we'll click, finish edit mode
03:53
and straight away, we can see that that split in the sketch gives us a post here.
03:58
We'll swap back to the site 3D view.
04:01
And again, we can see now we have that post at the change in angle
04:04
with the boards meeting at the post and
04:07
giving us a much more realistic representation.
