Once a mesh is reviewed and classified in ReCap, you can export it and open it in other Autodesk or third party software.
00:12
Meshes can be exported in several formats, which can contain different information.
00:18
From the Mesh Editor taskbar, click Export Model.
00:23
Since this example has a chair geometry selected, the Scene Selection is set to Selected Geometries Only by default.
00:32
Expand the drop-down to see that you can export the Entire Mesh, just the Classified Mesh, or a Custom selection that you choose.
00:41
For this example, choose Entire Mesh.
00:45
Select to Export As a Single file, and then click Browse to choose a save location.
00:53
Update the File Name, if needed.
00:56
In this case, “single_file” is added to the existing name.
01:02
Expand the Format drop-down to see the supported formats.
01:07
For this example, choose NavisWorks Cache (*.nwc).
01:12
Then, set the other export settings, as needed.
01:16
For this example, leave the Texture, Classification Color, and Up Axis settings at their defaults, and click Export.
01:26
Next, repeat the export, but with different settings, so you can compare them later.
01:32
Set this one to Export As Multiple files, and append the File Name accordingly.
01:39
Under Scene Selection, in the Classified section, click the Merge and Classify icon at the root layer.
01:46
This will merge all the mesh surfaces in that layer into a single object.
01:52
Unclassified layers are always merged into a single object during export.
01:58
Leave the rest of the settings as is and click Export.
02:03
Before checking the Navisworks project, review the files that have been created in your file browser.
02:10
The single file that you exported is a Navisworks file and contains the entire mesh model.
02:18
For the Multiple files export, expand the folders to find the model folder, which maintains all the data,
02:25
with subfolders for groups and individual files for each object.
02:30
To compare these exports, open them both in Navisworks.
02:34
Hide the classified layers to see that they align in the same place.
02:39
The NWC file has the same structure as in ReCap, including desk surfaces and chair surfaces.
02:47
You can interact with the classification as well, such as selecting ceiling pieces.
02:54
Unclassified segments cannot be interacted with, because they were exported grouped together.
03:01
In Navisworks, the file displays real-world color, or you can change the rendering to view classification colors.
03:09
On the ViewPoint tab, Render Style panel, change the Mode to Shaded.
03:16
To return to the previous view, select Full Render.
03:21
Next, hide the full model and unhide the other elements.
03:27
Now, selecting the ceiling shows merged files within each level, which improves file size efficiency.
