Create a new multi-layer wall type and assign a material, function, and thickness to each layer. Substitute all external walls of the same type with the new wall type.

as walls are system families, we cannot load a new wall type into a project.

So we must duplicate an existing wall type and edit it to suit

if I select one of the existing external walls we have in the model,

we can see from the type selector at the top of the properties pallet

that this is a basic wall

and a generic eight inch wall type.

The other wall types that are available from the type selector

have all been created within the template that was used to build this model from

the wall that we're going to create

So we would duplicate an existing wall and create it

And across the top, we can see the type name here, generic eight

that we'll use to create our new wall type

So we'll go ahead and click duplicate

and then we'll assign the new name of external wall

So now we need to edit the assembly of the wall to add in the extra layers

and to do this

from the type parameters on the construction panel,

we'll click edit next to structure

to access the edit assembly settings.

So here we can see the layers that make up the current wall.

And at the bottom of the box, we can click the preview button

to enable the preview which will make it easier for us

to see what happens as we add our new layers in.

So we'll start by changing the thickness of this existing layer to six inches.

And before we add the new layers, we can see at the top it's labeled exterior.

And at the bottom is the interior side,

we can see we have the layer numbers

showing their order.

And then below that, we have the buttons to insert and move new layers around.

So we'll start by inserting a new layer

and this will appear in layer two just above our existing layer

So now we'll add our next layer in. So we'll click insert,

we'll get another layer and this is going to represent our external installation.

So now we need to add the internal finish. So we'll select layer five,
