Trim and extend walls

Step-by-step guide

Trim and Extend walls to form a corner, extend a single wall to another, or trim and extend multiple walls.

1. Open the file W-Arch_Wall-Trim-Tools_RVT2021.rvt. It opens in the Level 1 plan view.
2. In the Modify tab > Modify panel, click Trim/Extend to Corner.

3. Click the horizontal wall on the side you want to keep. Then, select the vertical wall.

4. Repeat the process with the walls in the other corner. Remember to select the side of the wall you want to keep.

5. In the Modify panel, click Trim/Extend Single Element.
6. Select the horizontal exterior wall at the top of the building. Then, select the vertical interior wall.

7. Select the horizontal exterior wall at the bottom of the building as the reference.
8. Select the vertical interior wall on the inside of the exterior wall.

The wall is trimmed.

9. In the Modify panel, click Trim/Extend Multiple Elements.
10. Select the vertical interior wall, and then click and drag to define a crossing window that touches the walls you want to trim or extend.

11. Release the mouse button, and the walls are trimmed and extended.

12. Click Modify.
13. Save the project.
