Step-by-step guide

Modify stairs to add a landing and apply an alignment constraint.

In Revit, open the file Straight Run Stairs.rvt. It opens in the Entrance Lobby 3D view, where a straight run staircase is created.
In the Project Browser, under Floor Plans, double-click Level 1.
In the View tab > Windows panel, click Tile Views.
In the Navigation Bar, click Zoom All to Fit.

In the Revit interface, the project for this example open to the Level 1 and Entrance Lobby 3D views, with a staircase created.

In the plan view, select the stairs.
In the Modify Stairs tab > Edit panel, click Edit Stairs.

In the Level 1 and 3D views, the stairs selected, and in the Modify Stairs tab, Edit panel, Edit Stairs selected.

Select the stair run and drag the Drag the run end control to the midpoint of the stair.

In the Level 1 view, the stair run selected, and the cursor clicking the Drag the run end control.

In the notification popup, click Remove Constraints.

In the Level 1 view, the Drag the run end control dragged to the midpoint of the stair, and in the notification popup, Remove Constraints highlighted in red.

Select the stair run.
In the Modify panel, click Move.
Move the run 4'-0" away from the floor to make room for the landing.

In the Components panel, click Run and Straight.
Start the stair run 4'-0" above the previous run.

In the Level 1 view, starting the stair 4 feet above the previous run.

Finish the stair run and click Finish Edit Mode.

Select the stair.
Use the Align tool to align the top of the stair with the edge of the floor.

In the Modify panel, Align selected and highlighted in red; and in the Level 1 view, the edge of the floor selected, and the cursor selecting the top of the stair, highlighted in red.

Click the lock icon to create the constraint.
Save the file.
