In Revit, the Modify tool is used to select elements and sets of elements in your model.

Modify is always the default active tool and the first tool on every ribbon.

When your cursor becomes an arrow, the modify tool is active, allowing you to select individual or multiple model elements.

To stop using this tool or to deselect any elements you already chose, click Modify, press ESC,

or just click on a blank spot in the drawing area.

With the Modify tool active, to select an element, move the cursor over the edge of that element to highlight it.
