Prepare your traffic simulation model for pedestrian traffic in InfraWorks Mobility Simulation.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
3 min.
Transcript
00:03
Once you define a traffic study area using the Traffic Simulation tool in InfraWorks,
00:09
you can open it in Mobility Simulation and set up a pedestrian network, to see how people and cars interact with one another.
00:17
Be aware that Mobility Simulation does not keep any previous traffic settings,
00:22
because it creates a new mobility simulation, so these options will need to be set up again inside the application.
00:30
Begin in InfraWorks with a traffic study area already defined.
00:35
From the Analyze tab, expand the Transportation drop-down and select Mobility Simulation.
00:42
The traffic study area appears highlighted in the drawing.
00:46
Right-click the traffic study area and select Mobility Simulation.
00:51
A loading dialog appears as InfraWorks prepares the traffic model for Mobility Simulation.
00:57
Once complete, the new traffic model opens in a separate Mobility Simulation application window.
01:03
In this case, previously, the Traffic Simulation model had increased demands and a left-turn-only intersection,
01:10
so these traffic settings need to be reconfigured using the same commands.
01:15
To reset the increased traffic demand, from the ribbon, select Demand, and then click Demands.
01:21
In the Demand Editor for Matrix1, change every value to “40”.
01:26
Click OK.
01:28
To reset the signaling where Caswell Road meets Salthouse Road,
01:33
zoom in to select the intersection, then right-click and select Intersection > Adjust.
01:38
In the Intersections dialog, for the first signal in the list, expand the Fixed Signal drop-down and select barred.
01:47
This prevents a right turn onto Salthouse Road, making it left-turn only.
01:52
Select Apply, and then OK.
01:55
Now, confirm that the parameters you just reset are working within the model.
02:00
On the Simulation tab, click New, enter a name, and click OK.
02:06
Or in this case, accept the default of “Simulation”.
02:10
Select Simulation in the list, click Show to make it current, and then click Play. As
02:15
the updated simulation runs,
02:18
you now see a large number of vehicles moving around the traffic network.
02:22
You can now begin adding a pedestrian network, which is made up of walkways,
02:27
crosswalks, and pedestrian areas, to your InfraWorks Mobility Simulation model.
