Reconfigure intersections in an InfraWorks traffic simulation model

Reconfigure intersections by changing signals in your traffic simulation model in InfraWorks.

00:03

In InfraWorks, you can use the advanced parameters in the Traffic Analyst panel

00:08

to reconfigure intersections in your traffic flow animation.

00:12

The Traffic Analyst panel contains advanced functionality that lets you adjust demand,

00:18

signal type, signal timing, and many other parameters in a traffic simulation model.

00:24

With a traffic simulation animation running, right-click inside the traffic study area and click Traffic Analyst Panel.

00:32

The Traffic Simulation confirmation dialog box appears, asking if you want to access the advanced parameters.

00:40

Click OK.

00:41

The Traffic Analyst panel opens in a separate application window.

00:46

In your model, zoom into the intersection area you want to change.

00:51

Right-click the area, select Intersection, and then click Adjust.

00:57

The Intersections dialog box appears, where you can adjust the signaling for this intersection.

01:03

Here, several different signals are already being used.

01:08

On the Turns tab, click on each of the turns to see the direction it refers to, indicated by an arrow on the map.

01:16

Suppose you want to allow left turns only from Caswell Road onto Salthouse Road.

01:22

For the first signal in the Turn list, click in the Fixed Signal column to expand the drop-down, and select barred.

01:30

This blocks the ability to make a right turn.

01:33

However, when you select the second signal in the list, you see in the model that vehicles can still turn left.

01:40

Select Apply, and then click OK.

01:43

The best way to keep this simulation separate from other options is to save it as a new simulation.

01:50

On the Simulation tab, click New.

01:54

In the New Simulation dialog, type a name for the simulation, such as “Simulation2”, and then click OK.

02:01

To make it the current simulation for the model, select Simulation2, and then click Show (the light bulb button).

02:09

Click Play, and watch the intersection to confirm the change.

02:14

As you can see in the animation, no right turns are allowed in this intersection.

02:19

In InfraWorks, the advanced parameters in the Traffic Analyst panel

02:24

make it easy and intuitive to reconfigure intersections in your traffic simulation animation.
