Navigating the ICM GeoPlan view

Navigate the GeoPlan view of a network.


Step-by-step guide

When a network is opened, a map-based display, or GeoPlan, shows a geographical representation of the network, and can be displayed over the top of a map or other background data. Move around the GeoPlan window using the panning tools or by using the GeoPlan locator map. Panning the GeoPlan moves a small amount at a time within the area currently visible. The GeoPlan locator map allows you to move to any location in your model quickly.

To set GeoPlan options:

  1. From the menu bar, select Tools > Options.
  2. Click the GeoPlan tab.

Note: MapXtreme is the only Map Control compatible with ICM Standard and Ultimate. The other map control options are provided for legacy compatibility only.

  1. Ensure that Enable auto-panning when at the edge of the GeoPlan is selected.

  1. Move the cursor near the edges or corners of the GeoPlan. A large arrow appears.

  1. Click to scroll the view in the direction indicated
    OR click and hold to scroll repeatedly.

To access other GeoPlan tools:

  1. In the GeoPlan menu, select GeoPlan Tools.

The flyout lists the available tools and corresponding toolbar symbols.

These can also be quickly selected directly from the toolbar.

To pan manually:

  1. On the Tools toolbar, click Pan,
    OR from the keyboard, press one of the arrow keys.

  1. On the GeoPlan, click and hold to drag the pointer to another part of the network,
    OR hold down the mouse scroll wheel while dragging the pointer.
  2. To zoom in or zoom out, click the corresponding tool from the toolbar.

  1. Single click to double the zoom level.
  2. Click and drag to zoom in to a specific area.
  3. Scroll the mouse wheel to adjust the zoom at the cursor location.
  4. Right-click on the GeoPlan to quickly access additional zoom functions such as Zoom to selection and Zoom to network.

In the GeoPlan, the locator map displays a simple schematic of the entire network with a highlighted box inside it. This box displays the current location of the GeoPlan window. Use the locator map to move anywhere within the network.

To navigate with the GeoPlan locator map:

  1. Move the cursor over the locator box to change it into a move icon.
  2. Click the highlighted box and drag anywhere within the network to pan the main GeoPlan window to that location.
