To optimize the efficiency of your layout in Factory Design,
00:08
you can analyze how each machine is being used within its defined limits.
00:12
Based on the analysis, you can make changes to the layout and review the effects on utilization.
00:18
To follow along with this tutorial, from the Quick Access Toolbar, click Open,
00:23
navigate to the Tutorial 4 folder, and open Material Flow Analysis_Complete.dwg.
00:30
From the ribbon, Factory tab, Material Flow panel,
00:34
expand the Transportation drop-down and select Machine.
00:38
This activates the Machine Utilization Meters.
00:42
If the Machine Utilization indicator is not visible, right-click the KWH indicator—also known as the Power Consumption indicator—and
00:51
select Indicators > Utilization Settings.
00:54
The Machine Utilization indicator settings appear on the dashboard.
00:58
Next, add station meters for specific operations to the display.
01:03
Begin by hovering the cursor over callout 4, the Planning Station, until the meter displays.
01:10
Right-click and select Optimization > Add Meter to Dashboard.
01:15
Repeat this step for callout 2, the Machining Line, to add its meter to the dashboard.
01:20
Now, adjust the properties of these two operations to see the effect on utilization.
01:25
In the Material Flow Browser, Routings tab, select Planning Station.
01:31
Then, in the Factory Properties browser, Material Flow Object tab, in the Properties section,
01:37
change the Processing Time to 24 minutes.
01:40
Press ENTER.
01:42
Review the results of the change in the Power Consumption indicator and in the layout.
01:47
Note how the percentage of use value decreases and in the layout, the callout for this operation turns from red to green.
01:55
The flag color, based on Utilization Settings, indicates the utilization status of each station.
02:01
Green means well utilized, red means overutilized, and yellow means underutilized.
02:07
Next, adjust the properties of the panel machining operation.
02:11
In the Material Flow Browser, Routings tab, select Operation 3: Panel Machining.
02:17
In the Factory Properties browser, Material Flow Object tab, in the Properties section,
02:24
change the Processing Time to 25 minutes, and then press ENTER.
02:28
Review the results of the change, again noting that the percentage of use value decreases,
02:33
and the callout for this operation turns from red to green.
02:37
Repeat these steps, adding meters for the remaining operations and adjusting the processing time to acceptable levels.
