Introduction to Discrete Event Simulation

Course overview

Well-designed simulations provide clear insights, such as locating inefficiencies, collecting resource usage data, and identifying any downtime in the process being simulated. This course provides guidelines for designing a Discrete Event Simulation (DES) model in FlexSim.

After taking this course, you'll be able to:

  • Describe what a simulation is as it pertains to FlexSim functionality and define Discrete Event Simulation (DES) models.
  • Describe the role that inputs and outputs have in building a FlexSim model.
  • Describe how queuing, processing, and moving are used within a model to simulate the passage of time.
  • Describe why gathering data is important for developing a simulation.

As a supplement to the information provided in this course, download the FlexSim Simulation Software Primer from the Course downloads.
