Prerequisites

        Inserting Schematic Symbols

 

Objective:  In this exercise you insert a selector switch, relay coil, and contact using the schematic symbol icon menu. You add information to the symbols using various copying and searching techniques to take advantage of existing data.

        > Insert a selector switch, copying description lines, and searching the project for catalog information.

        > Insert a relay coil, searching the drawing for catalog information.

        > Edit the relay coil attribute locations.

        > Insert a relay contact and link the child contact to the parent coil.

 

Instructions

 

1:  If the Project Manager is not displayed, on the Project tab, Project Tools panel, click Manager.

 

 

2:  If Schematic_Components_NFPA is the active project, skip to step 5. If it is open but not active, in the Project Manager then:

        > Right-click Schematic_Components_NFPA.

        > Click Activate.

        > Skip to step 5.

 

3:  In the Project Manager, click Open Project.

 

4:  Browse to where you installed the project files and select Schematic_Components_NFPA.wdp. Click Open.

 

5:  In the Projects list, click the expansion node next to Schematic_Components_NFPA to expand the drawing list in the manager.

 

6:  Right-click Schematic_Components_NFPA_04.dwg. Click Open.

 

7:  Zoom in to rungs 420 - 422 on the upper area of the second ladder.

 

 

8:  On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu.

 

 

9:  In the Insert Component dialog box, click Selector Switches.

 

 

10:  In the Symbol Preview window, click 2 Position Maintain, NO.

 

 

11:  Select the insertion point on rung 421, directly above SS424.

 

 

12:  In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Description, click Pick.

 

13:  Pick SS424. The description lines from the selected component are copied to the matching description lines in the Insert/Edit Component dialog box.

 

 

14:  Change the first description line to "CONVEYOR MOTOR"

 

15:  Under Catalog Data, click Project.

 

16:  In the Find: Catalog Assignments dialog box, click Active Project. Click OK.

 

17:  If requested, in the Qsave dialog box, click Always Qsave.

 

18:  In the HSS112 / VSS112 Catalog Values dialog box, select AB, 800MR-HH2BB. Click OK.

 

 

19:  The catalog values from the existing components are copied to the Insert/Edit Component dialog box. Click OK.
The insertion of the SS421 push button is completed.

 

 

20:  Click OK if prompted to update the panel symbols.
This will update the panel components and return to this schematic drawing.


 

21:  In the Project Manager, right-click Schematic_Components_JIC_07.dwg. Click Open.

 

22:  Zoom in to rungs 735 - 738 on the lower portion of the second ladder.

 

 

23:  On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu.

 

24:  In the Insert Component dialog box, click Relays/Contacts.

 

 

25:  In the Symbol preview window, select Relay Coil.

 

 

26:  Select the insertion point on rung 736, directly above CR737.


 

 

27:  In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Description, click Pick.

 

28:  On rung 736, select the PLC output description, Audible Alarm Relay.

 

29:  Under Catalog Data, click Drawing.

 

30:  In the HCR1/VCR1 Catalog Values dialog box, select AB, 700-P400A1. Click OK.

 

31:  In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, click OK.
This completes the insertion of the CR736 relay coil.

 

32:  Notice that near CR736 there are two descriptions displayed, somewhat overlapping each other. One is from the PLC output and the other is from the relay coil. Also, the NO and NC reference attributes are in the wrong locations. Next, you edit the attributes, hiding the description on the relay coil, and moving the cross-reference attributes.

 

33:  On the Schematic tab, Edit Components panel, Move/Show Attribute flyout, click Hide Attribute (Single Pick).

 

 

34:  Select the Audible Alarm Relay attribute from the relay coil.

 

 

35:  On the Schematic tab, Edit Components panel, Move/Show Attribute flyout, click Move/Show Attribute.

 

 

36:  Select the NO and NC attributes on the relay coil. Press ENTER.

 

 

37:  For the Base Point select a location near the selected attributes.

 

38:  Move the NO and NC attributes just under the Audible Alarm Relay attribute, directly above the NO and NC attributes of the Purge Complete Relay. Press ENTER to end the Move/Show Attribute command.

 

 

39:  In the Project Manager, right-click Schematic_Components_NFPA_04.dwg. Click Open.

 

40:  Zoom in to rungs 433 - 434 on the lower portion of the second ladder.

 

 

41:  On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu.

 

42:  In the Insert Component dialog box, click Relays/Contacts.

 

 

43:  In the Symbol preview window, select Relay NO Contact.

 

 

44:  Select the insertion point on rung 433, directly above CR737.

 

45:  In the Insert/Edit Child Component dialog box, under Component Tag, click Project.

 

46:  In the Complete Project List for Family ="CR" dialog box, select CR736, Audible Alarm Relay. Click OK.

 
The child contact is linked to the parent coil, and data is copied from the parent to the child, including descriptions, pin numbers, and cross-reference information.

 

47:  In the Insert/Edit Child Component dialog box, click OK.
