Link design sections in a new project, then embed the sections into the project so they can be edited.
Transcript
00:03
In Structural Bridge Design, once individual design sections are created, you can link the section data files to a new project.
00:13
You can then embed the sections into the project to enable editing, while preserving the original linked files.
00:20
Begin in Structural Bridge Design, with your design sections already created.
00:26
To link the new sections to a project, first, create a new project from a template by selecting New > Create From Template.
00:35
In this case, select the EU Project template created previously.
00:40
From the Main Menu, select File > Titles.
00:45
In the Titles form, type a Project Title, and then click OK.
00:52
Next, with the Materials group active in the Navigation Pane, check the materials list.
00:58
In this case, all needed materials are defined and correct.
01:03
Now, you can begin adding sections.
01:06
Select Design Sections, and then click Add > Existing Design Section(s).
01:14
In the Open Existing File dialog, one at a time, locate and select a section, and then click Open.
01:23
The section opens as a linked file in the Navigation Pane.
01:28
Note that the linked data cannot be manipulated; however, it can be used in structure property assignments.
01:36
Repeat these steps until all necessary design sections are added.
01:42
In this case, six additional sections are linked.
01:45
Next, to confirm the important information about each section, select each linked file to open the Section Overview.
01:54
Here, you can view the file location, last modified date, and other section details to confirm that these are the correct sections.
02:03
Click Done to close the form.
02:06
Alternatively, to obtain a single report for all sections, in the Main Menu, click File > Data Reports.
02:15
Then, in the Data Reports dialog, select Design Sections or expand the Selection drop-down to choose the sections you want to include.
02:25
Click View.
02:27
A text-only view displays information about each section in the Results Viewer.
02:33
Close the viewer.
02:35
Next, to enable editing, you can embed the linked sections.
02:40
In the Navigation Pane, after selecting Design Sections, click Embed All Linked Sections.
02:47
This embeds the data from each section file into the project and displays it in the tree.
02:55
To view any notes, right-click a section and select Notes.
03:00
Click OK to close the form.
03:03
Once a section is embedded, any data reports include the entire data structure.
03:09
In the Navigation Pane, select Materials to see that the Materials list is now longer.
03:17
When you embed sections, all collective materials appear in the tree, including materials that were edited
03:23
and any that were unassigned when you created each section.
03:27
Click Clear Unassigned to reduce the list to only those materials assigned to a section component.
03:34
If you select a specific material, you see the type of material listed under Details in the Navigation Pane,
03:42
as well as the components that the material is assigned to.
03:46
This allows you to quickly review the assignments for each material.
03:52
When you have finished editing the embedded sections,
03:55
you have the option of converting the updated section files back to standalone linked sections.
04:03
This is done from the Design Sections group, by clicking Link All Embedded Sections.
04:10
You can then provide new names for the sections or overwrite the originals.
04:15
In this case, keep the files embedded for further editing and save the project.
04:20
After closing all open forms, select File > Save As, type a File name, and then click Save.
