Introducing the GIS Gateway

Describe how the GIS Gateway is used for manual data transfer between InfoWater Pro and various GIS data sources.

The GIS Gateway provides seamless manual data transfer between InfoWater Pro and GIS data sources of varying types, including shapefiles, feature classes, and enterprise geodatabases.

GIS data may be transferred through unique IDs using the tabular join method, or by spatial proximity using spatial join.

Both methods require field mapping, similar to mapping in Import Manager.

Difference from Import Manager: GIS Gateway allows mappings to be saved in exchange clusters for future use, modification, or duplication.

The GIS Gateway dialog box, with a list of saved GIS Exchange Clusters, and under Details, information about the selected Exchange Cluster.

GIS Exchange Clusters:

In addition to field mappings, GIS Exchange Clusters hold data transfer options, including how data will be loaded in model.

GIS Gateway includes options to:

  • Create New Records
  • Update Existing Records
  • Delete Non-Matching Records

Data exchange can be limited to active network or a domain of network elements.

Use WHERE clause to restrict or limit data exchanged—utilizes same syntax as Select by Attributes tool in ArcGIS Pro.

Exchange Direction:

Many exchange options require allowed data exchange direction to be updated:

  • Load Only - imports GIS data
  • Save Only --saves model data back to GIS
  • Bi-Directional - loads from or saves back to GIS

Save Only typically used on copy of GIS data, not on current production GIS data.

GIS Gateway Exchange Options:

Choose from four different cluster options:

  • Support Batch Exchange: enable if utilizing batch exchange
  • Create Unique IDs: utilizes default ID format specified in project Preferences
  • Update Geometry: matches destination feature coordinates to current source feature coordinates
  • Reformat ESRI IDs (GUID): reformats ESRI ID to remove spaces and characters not allowed in InfoWater Pro—breaks ID tie to GIS

Saved GIS Exchange Clusters can be loaded individually or as a group from GIS Gateway.
