After defining analytical systems and system zones.
00:07
The next step towards performing a mechanical systems
00:10
analysis is to create an energy model.
00:13
The energy model is comprised of analytical spaces containing
00:17
the information necessary for performing the mechanical systems analysis.
00:22
In this project,
00:23
we will review the energy optimization settings and consider
00:27
the building and space settings whose values are applied.
00:31
By default to the analytical spaces,
00:34
we will create and review analytical spaces then investigate the options
00:38
for overriding analytical space properties with the use of rev spaces.
00:44
Finally, we will review the analytical space output using the system browser.
00:51
Ensure the current view is H VAC floor plans. 01 H VAC plan.
00:59
Let's start with a review of the energy settings found on
01:02
the energy optimization panel of the analyzed tab of the ribbon
01:09
ensure the mode is set to use conceptual masses
01:13
and building elements from the energy analytical model area.
01:17
This is the recommended setting and caters
01:19
for architectural models that contain only masses,
01:23
only physical building elements or a mixture of both
01:28
from the advanced options.
01:30
Set the HVAC system to the option that best describes the system to
01:34
be used for the analysis and a range of assumptions will be applied.
01:39
Select central va V
01:43
set the material thermal properties to detailed elements.
01:48
This setting will use the material
01:50
thermal properties from the actual building elements
01:56
select OK. And close both dialog boxes
02:02
from the ribbon, select the manage tab then from the mep settings, dropdown menu,
02:08
select building space type settings
02:15
from the building types, select hospital or healthcare.
02:21
A review of the associated parameters and values shows the information
02:26
that will be applied to each of the analytical spaces.
02:29
When the energy model is created,
02:34
select space time and review the list of available spaces
02:42
in the filter area type hospital.
02:45
And from the list of related spaces below choose physical therapy.
02:53
If a rev
02:54
space is added to the project model,
02:56
then the analytical space created in that location will adopt the rev
03:02
space properties rather than the default building
03:05
type properties assigned to a hospital,
03:08
providing greater flexibility to adjust property values where needed
03:14
from the project browser. Open the view 03 H VAC plan
03:21
from the analyze tab select the space command
03:27
set the upper limit to roof and the offset to zero.
03:32
Then place a space in the long narrow room across the bottom of the floor plan.
03:40
Select the space.
03:41
Then from the properties change the space type to physical therapy.
03:53
Note the updated outdoor air method and the value for air changes per hour
04:01
change the cooling set point to 72 degrees.
04:07
Then select OK to close the window.
04:13
Next we'll create the energy model
04:16
from the energy optimization panel, select create energy model.
04:21
And if the additional dialog box pops up,
04:24
read the message and then go ahead and create the energy analytical model.
04:33
Once complete a visual inspection of the analytical spaces is
04:37
advised to make sure there are no obvious issues.
04:42
If the model has gaps and disconnect it can be seen here
04:45
and then a review of the energy settings may be required.
04:51
Enter the energy settings dialog box
04:55
and review the analytical space resolution
04:59
and the analytical surface resolution.
05:05
The default values here are too high in this instance,
05:09
set the space resolution to six inches
05:13
and the surface resolution to three inches
05:17
and close the dialog box
05:22
setting,
05:22
the resolution lower will improve the quality of
05:25
the analytical spaces but will increase the processing time
05:30
to see the effects of the change. The existing energy model needs to be deleted.
05:35
And a new energy model created.
