Applying MEP filters

Applying MEP filters to views within Revit - Exercise

  1. Open the practice file 001-Small Medical Center-Apply Filters.rvt.
  2. Open the 01 Ground Floor HVAC Plan and identify the various systems displayed in the view including the plumbing and refrigerant piping systems.
  3. Type VG (or VV which is quicker) to open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog box and turn off all the piping related categories as shown below. Click OK.



  4. All the piping, including the refrigerant piping is turned off.
  5. Type <Ctrl>+Z to Undo the change.
  6. Open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog box again. In the Model Categories tab, turn off the Plumbing Fixtures category only. These fixtures are not needed in the HVAC view.
  7. Open the Filters tab and click the Add button.
  8. In the Add Filters dialog box select Domestic Cold Water, Domestic Hot Water, and Sanitary, as shown below, and click OK.



  9. In the Filters tab in the Visibility column clear the check from the Sanitary, Domestic Cold Water, and Domestic Hot Water filters, as shown below.



  10. While you are still in the Filters tab, remove the graphic overrides to the three Ceiling HVAC filters.



  11. Click OK and the plumbing piping is turned off while the refrigerant piping remains in the view.
  12. Save the project.

Task 2: Creating MEP filters for views

  1. In the View tab> Graphics panel click Filters.
  2. Review several of the existing filters such as the Domestic Cold Water filter shown below.



  3. In the Filters dialog box select New and name the filter Gas Piping, as shown below. Click OK.



  4. In Categories, select the various Pipe related items.
  5. In Filter Rules, specify the System Name contains Gas, as shown below, and click Apply.



  6. Duplicate the Gas Piping view and rename it Liquid Refrigerant Piping.
  7. In Filter Rules, specify the System Type equals Liquid Refrigerant Piping as shown below and click OK.



  8. Open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog box again and select the Filters tab.
  9. Click Add and add the new Gas Piping and Liquid Refrigerant Piping filters to the view.
  10. Add Line Overrides to the new filters, as shown below.



  11. Save the project.
