Understand the 3 ways change can fail

Business success is about people

  • From employees to suppliers to customers, a business is at the center of people.
  • People are connected by tools, methods, technology, systems, etc. While those things change, people’s behavior might remain the same.

Critical question

How much of your initiative’s success depends upon people changing the way they work?

  • Change is always disruptive; successful change is worth the disruption; poorly executed change can cause “train wrecks” that resonate for years.
  • 3 failure modes of unsuccessful change:
    • Incomplete adoption (fail to fully adopt).
    • Change is too slow.
    • Change doesn’t stick (reverts back to old way).

To make sure you're ready for the change, use the Change Planning Readiness Assessment worksheet found within the downloadable resources available on the module overview page (click on the Download resources button).
