Project | Design a mechanical assembly

Create a reciprocating saw mechanical assembly, including spur gears and links to modify the drive ratio and linear travel of an assembly using Fusion.

‌

Module overview

Get hands-on with practice and challenge exercises that work on reducing component mass and model adjustments to locate the center of mass at a specific location.

Project scenario:
A customer has asked your company to redesign a portion of a reciprocating saw assembly. They have provided the original assembly and direction on what components and parameters need to change. They would like to maintain all components of the supplied design except the connecting rod and small and large spur gears. You will need to model and redesign the specified parts while maintaining the other assembly components. The customer would like to alter the drive ratio and adjust the overall travel of the blade. The operation of the mechanism should remain the same and continue to use other assembly components such as the rods, blade, and motor.

After completing this project, you'll be able to:

  • Review an assembly.
  • Create fully detailed spur gears.
  • Apply assembly joints.
  • Validate final assembly motion.
