Tutorial
Length:
3 min.
Transcript
00:03
When using the Upchain CAD plugin for Inventor, you can register an entire assembly file by creating a new item.
00:11
Each part and assembly associated with that assembly file is registered to its own item and assigned an item number.
00:18
It is important to remember that if you add new parts to the registered assembly, you will need to create new items,
00:24
as the new parts will not be registered.
00:27
Begin with a model open in Inventor and the Upchain panel open to the CAD Bill of Materials (cBOM) view.
00:34
Before starting the registration process, in the Inventor Assembly Browser,
00:39
right-click the Table entry for a component and select Change Component.
00:43
In the Place Standard iPart window, switch to the Table tab, where you can see which part is currently being used for this component.
00:51
You will be referencing this information shortly.
00:55
Click Cancel to close the window.
00:58
In the Upchain panel, click Refresh.
01:01
The cBOM list updates, based on the files currently opened in Inventor, but all the files are listed as Not Registered.
01:09
To register these items, in the Upchain panel, right-click the top-level assembly file and select Create item.
01:17
The Project selection window opens.
01:20
Select the top-level project, and then click Select.
01:25
The CAD Check In window opens, with a preview of the cBOM files on the left side
01:30
and the engineering BOM items to be created on the right side.
01:35
You can expand the assembly folders to see all the components.
01:39
All files have a green checkmark icon beside them to indicate that for each file,
01:44
a corresponding BOM item will be created.
01:47
Click OK.
01:49
The designs of the assembly and all sub-parts are now associated with Upchain items, assigned unique item numbers,
01:56
and saved in the Upchain database.
01:59
In the Upchain panel, you can see that the assembly and components are now locked,
02:04
or checked out to you, as indicated by the green check out lock and green text.
02:09
You can now make changes to the design or the item attributes before checking the item in.
02:15
Keep in mind that if you decide to add new parts to the assembly later, these parts will not be registered.
02:22
In the Inventor Assembly Browser, right-click the Table entry for the component you selected earlier, and select Change Component.
02:31
On the Table tab, select a new row, such as CLA-Screw-50, and then click OK.
02:38
In the Upchain panel, click Refresh.
02:41
The cBOM list updates, and this component now displays as Not registered,
02:45
since Screw 50 was not part of the assembly when you created the item.
02:50
In this case, you can create a new item or change the part to a registered component.
02:56
Here, change the component back to CLA-Screw-30.
02:60
Once you refresh the cBOM, the component is now registered, as Screw 30 was part of the original assembly when you created the item.
