Apply width to create a polyline with continuous or varying thickness.
Transcript
00:04
The width option for poly lines is a great tool
00:07
to be able to apply a width to either the entire
00:10
polyline or you can apply a width at one end
00:14
and a different width at the end of the Polyline.
00:17
Even giving the Polyline an arrowhead appearance,
00:22
a poly line which has width applied to.
00:25
It can be a handy tool for drafters and designers.
00:28
When they want to show a type of thickness applied to a line
00:31
without having to rely on plotting settings to be able to show that thickness.
00:37
Let's take a look at creating a polyline which has a continuous width.
00:42
This is great for line work that you wanna show a visible thickness in your drawing.
00:47
For example, maybe you wanna show a paved area such as a sidewalk in your drawing
00:53
to do this.
00:55
Start the poly
00:56
line command.
01:00
After selecting your starting point,
01:02
select the with option
01:05
for this example, I'll type in five
01:09
and then notice we have a
01:11
specified ending with
01:13
which I'll use the same option of five.
01:18
Then as I draw my polyline,
01:21
you can see that the thickness or width
01:24
has been applied to the Polyline.
01:27
Now let's look at an example of a Polyline that has a varying width
01:33
for this, I'll change over to another drawing.
01:38
Let's say I want to create an exhibit of something like the picture of this church.
01:43
I can use some of the same steps that I previously used,
01:47
but we'll get a varying with on the poly line instead
01:53
to get started, I'll start my polyline command,
01:58
then immediately I'll use the
02:00
wi option.
02:02
And for this first with
02:05
I'll type in 25
02:07
and for the ending with 25
02:10
then
02:11
I'll make my segment
02:18
and next,
02:20
I'll keep the width at 25 to start.
02:26
But then
02:27
my ending with,
02:29
I'll make zero
02:32
type in 20
02:34
for the segment length.
02:36
And you can see my first
02:38
segment of the church
02:40
is created
02:42
for the next tower,
02:44
I'll start my Polyline
02:49
and for this width, this one will be slightly wider.
02:52
So this will be 35 for start and end
02:57
and the height on this one
02:60
will be 60.
03:04
Then I'll go back to my width option
03:11
and the starting with will be 35
03:14
ending with
03:15
zero.
03:17
The tower length will be 20
03:21
and just like that, I have
03:23
my two components.
03:25
Now, I can use the
03:28
move and copy
03:30
to get this to look exactly how I want it to.
03:34
But just like that, you can see how varying with options
03:39
can work out greatly. For an exhibit of this type.
03:45
I could continue using poly lines to do
03:47
windows and doors to finish this church exhibit.
