When creating HVAC plans in AutoCAD MEP, you begin by adding HVAC equipment.
00:11
This equipment is made up of items referred to as targets and sources.
00:15
These are items that distribute and receive air in a model.
00:19
There is already some equipment in this model, along with ductwork.
00:24
You are going to add air terminals and VAV units to the upper offices.
00:27
To place HVAC equipment, make sure you have the HVAC workspace set current.
00:35
Once the workspace is current, you have two places to locate equipment commands.
00:40
From the ribbon, Home tab, Build panel, expand the Equipment tool.
00:44
This flyout includes common components, such an air handler, an air terminal, a fan, a damper, and a VAV unit.
00:53
The other location is the Tool Palettes, Equipment tab.
00:57
From here, select the Diffuser tool to place a supply air terminal.
01:02
The Add Multi-view Parts dialog appears, displaying the category for supply air diffusers in the Part tab.
01:10
Select 24x24 Inch Square Plaque Face Ceiling Diffuser US Imperial.
01:17
For the Part Size Name, select the 8 Inch neck option.
01:22
The elevation field sets the height or Z elevation of the part, based on the insertion point.
01:27
Set this field to 8'-6", which is the height of the ceiling. For the Part Size Name, select the 8 Inch neck option.
01:34
Switch to the Flow tab.
01:37
Set the airflow to 160 CFM.
01:42
To preset the system definition for the duct connector, click the System icon to open the Multi-view Part Properties dialog.
01:50
From the Systems tab, use the drop-down under System to select Standard.
01:56
This tells the part what system to place the duct on when the connector is used to create the duct.
02:02
Click OK.
02:04
Click once in the model space area to place the part.
02:07
You can use an intersection or node space to place the part.
02:11
Pick the first intersection.
02:14
The MEP compass appears, showing the increment angles that can be used to place the part.
02:19
Press ENTER to accept a 0 rotation.
02:23
Place four diffusers in the room.
02:26
While the Add Multi-view Parts dialog is still open, make sure the Part tab is selected.
02:33
Expand the VAV Units folder and VAV Boxes sub-folder, and then select the Single Duct VAV Box.
02:42
There are thousands of sizes available in the Part Size Name drop-down.
02:47
You can filter the list down to a more manageable level.
02:51
Switch to the Part Filter tab.
02:54
Set the Connection Diameter to 22".
02:57
It is recommended to select this from the drop-down, to ensure you are using a predefined size, based on industry standards;
03:05
however, you can type it in also.
03:07
Set the Rectangular Connection Height and Rectangular Connection Width to 24" each and
03:13
notice how the list of available part size names is getting smaller.
03:19
Set the VAV Box Length to 12" and the Elevation to 11'.
03:27
Then, pick in the drawing area once to set it active.
03:31
Place the part in the corridor, and then rotate it 90 degrees.
03:37
You can also change the rotation angle in the Properties window.
03:41
You can continue to add parts using the Add Multi-view Parts dialog, or you can use the AutoCAD Copy command.
