Set up the model for visualization - Exercise
In this lesson, you will use the appearance controls of inventor along with the visual styles to create a quick image of a design for sharing with others.
Learning objectives
- Modify the appearance of a component.
- Edit the appearance of specific faces on a component.
- Change the display of a component in the assembly.
- Export and image of the component.

The completed exercise
- Open Gear housing.ipt file.

- Select a different material using the material properties pull down and note the change to the appearance of the model.
- Eventually set the material to Aluminum.

- Use the pull-down on the right to change the appearance of the model to be different than the default for the physical material.
- The lesson will use Smooth – Navy from the Autodesk Appearance Library.

- Select the Appearance Browser from between the two pull-downs used to set the material and appearance of the model.
- Double-click Smooth – Navy to edit it.
- Select the Relief Pattern option and set the Image to: AlloySand2_bump.bmp.

- Select the preview of the image and change the Scale: Sample Size to 3 from 12.
- Close the Texture Editor dialog.

- In the Appearance Editor, change the Plastic: Finish to Matte.

- Select: Extrusion8, Extrusion9, Extrusion11, Hole3, Hole4, Hole6, and Chamfer1 in the browser and use the pull-down to set the appearance of those features to Satin.
- Select the bottom face of the housing and set its appearance to Satin.

- In the View tab, set the appearance of the Model to Realistic.
- Set the Ray Tracing quality to Low.
- Set the Lighting environment to Empty Lab and use Settings to no longer Display Scene Image.

- Use File > Export > Image to save the image on the screen.
