Applying the datum reference frame

Any referenced datasets can be downloaded from "Module downloads" in the module overview.

Using the datum reference frame - Exercise

  1. Open the Gear-Housing-DRF.ipt part file from your working folder. 
  2. Activate the Annotate tab from the Inventor ribbon. 
  3. From the Annotate tab>Geometric Annotations panel – select Tolerance Feature. 
  4. Click on one of the 0.27" holes along the top of the model (as shown) and click the green checkmark.  
  5. Click again to place the Positional tolerance feature on plane. 
  6. Confirm that the tolerance value is 0.08 and click the green checkmark to confirm.

  7. Double-click on the ABC at the end of the Feature Control Frame. 
  8. Select New DRF from the drop-down menu.

  9. Using the drop-down menus, make A the Primary, C the Secondary, and B the Tertiary. 
  10. Click OK to confirm the change. 
  11. Save and Close the model.
