Running and analyzing a Nastran analysis

Any referenced datasets can be downloaded from "Module downloads" in the module overview.

Running a Nastran analysis - Exercise

  1. Open the Cable_Sheave_Run.ipt part file from your working folder.  
  2. In the Environments tab>Begin panel, click Autodesk Inventor Nastran. 
  3. From the Autodesk Inventor Nastran tab>Solve panel, click Run. 
  4. Select OK on the pop up that says: "Nastran Solution Complete." 
  5. At the top of the results legend, use the drop-down menu to change the result type to Displacement.



  6. From the Autodesk Inventor Nastran tab>Results panel, click Animate. 
  7. View the animation and then click Animate again to turn it off. 
  8. From the Analysis tree, right-click on XY Plot and select New. 
  9. In the dialog box, under Entity to Plot, select the radio button next to Along Selected Entity.



  10. In the graphics window, click on the vertical edge as shown in the image above. 
  11. Select Show XY Plot at the bottom of the dialog box. 
  12. View the plot and then select OK.
  13. For Name enter Displacement.
  14. From the XY dialog box, select Save. 
  15. Select Close to leave the dialog box. 
    • Note – the custom XY plot has been added to the Analysis tree underneath XY Plot.
  16. From the Autodesk Inventor Nastran tab>Mesh panel, click Mesh Settings. 
  17. For Element Size (in) type 0.375 in the box. 
  18. Select Generate Mesh.



  19. Select OK to close the Mesh Settings. 
  20. Save the Model. 
  21. From the Solve panel, select Run. 
  22. Review the new results.
  23. Save and close the Model.
