As mentioned in the intro, if you are doing more than two versions at a time,

you can only step through two at a time in Vault. It is still recommended that you create a test server.

And in order to create a test server,

you would build a server as close to the production server as possible,

with the same version and patch level as your existing Vault server.

You would backup from production and restore to test server.

And at that point, you are ready to start all the testing.

You can perform the same steps that you would as part of the upgrade.

And you can see timing, and any errors, and any issues, and document anything that comes up.
