Learn how to take a design idea and begin sketching its profile.
00:07
You will learn how to create two dimensional sketches,
00:11
apply dimensions and constraints,
00:13
create sketch geometry such as lines and create a fully constrained sketch.
00:19
So it can be turned into a solid
00:22
before getting started on the Tumbler sketch
00:24
in the data panel, make sure you are in the correct project and folder.
00:28
Next set the correct units in document settings.
00:32
For this design, you will create the project in imperial [metric] units.
00:35
However, if you are using the metric system [inch system],
00:38
you would use millimeters [inches] as your unit of measure
00:41
toward the top of the browser. Expand the document settings,
00:46
you will see units.
00:48
Once you click the edit icon,
00:51
you can select the units that you prefer
00:54
Choose inches [millimeters]
00:56
and then save the design as My Tumbler.
01:02
Afterwards hide the data panels to maximize your canvas space
01:08
to create a two dimensional sketch in the create group. Click create sketch
01:13
to enter sketching mode. Click a plane to begin,
01:17
there are three planes to choose from in the canvas area
01:20
to begin creating the profile of the Tumbler Cup.
01:23
Choose the xy plane
01:26
sketch tools are now available in the tool bar
01:29
in the create group
01:31
click line or press L and create a vertical line starting at the origin.
01:37
After drawing the line, you will have the option to apply a dimension,
01:41
create a line that is nine inches [228.6 millimeters] in length and press enter or return.
01:45
If you forgot to set the dimension, you can select the dimension icon or press D
01:52
and you could apply the dimension using your mouse,
01:55
click the wheel and move the line back to the screen.
01:59
You may also need to zoom out,
02:01
click the line tool again
02:03
and draw a line starting at the origin that goes horizontally to the right,
02:08
making it two inches [50.8 millimeters]
02:10
press enter or return,
02:13
create a line at the top of the original vertical line
02:16
going toward the right.
02:19
This line is three inches [76.2 millimeters] long,
02:22
continue with the line tool
02:24
and draw a line coming down
02:27
from the three inch [76.2 millimeter] line. A distance of one inch [25.4 millimeters]
02:30
finally
02:32
connect the two end points together,
02:38
click finish sketch.
02:40
This initial sketch will be used to create a beverage tumbler.
02:45
You may have noticed the lines making up the sketch are all black
02:48
and the inside of the shape has turned a light shade of blue
02:52
as black geometry indicates the sketch has been fully defined
02:56
and is ready to go to the next process in creating the Tumbler.
02:60
You can also confirm that a sketch is fully constrained
03:03
by expanding the sketch folder under the Tumbler
03:06
in the browser and notice the lock symbol,
03:09
click save in the application bar.
