Scan Regions

In this unit, you will learn how to create, manage, import, and export Scan Regions.

00:04

Okay, so the final concept we want to show here is scan region.

00:08

So this involves selecting points in the scene and then assigning those to a region.

00:15

And we can also do some clipping and things like that to turn on and off things that we want to see and also eliminate here from the view.

00:24

So selection is pretty simple here.

00:26

If I wanted to select just this work area, I could go up to a top view, then go ahead and zoom in here.

00:36

Now I perform a window selection that is going to select everything within this fenced area from the view all the way down.

00:45

So it actually creates kind of a column there of selection.

00:49

And once I have these points selected, I can either assign these to a region.

00:53

So I'll go ahead and create a new region here by clicking New Region.

01:01

And that will be stored over here in the scan region section.

01:05

So if I go ahead and clear this and you can see if I highlight over these different regions,

01:10

it will show me the points that have been selected there for that area.

01:14

Now I can turn off the scan regions if I wanted to hide some of the other points and just focus on what I'm looking at here.

01:22

We can also do this through simple selection.

01:25

If we were to select a fenced off area here, double click there.

01:31

These can also be clipped inside or outside.

01:35

So if I wanted to see what was inside the selection, I could do that.

01:38

You can clip that and we do that again.

01:43

We can also clip outside to exclude everything that's outside of that selection zone.

01:51

So these are useful for creating certain areas that you want to focus on and things like selecting maybe this wall over here,

02:01

if you want to do a plane selection.

02:03

Now, the way this works is you would need to click at least three points.

02:07

And then when you double click that will finish the selection.

02:10

So I'll just go and click along this wall.

02:12

One, two, and then double click on the third selection.

02:15

And that's going to select the points on that plane based on the depth here.

02:20

And go ahead and clip everything that's outside that.

02:23

And then I could create a scan region just for this wall.

02:31

We can also export our scan regions and import our scan regions.

02:36

If we want to keep those selections across multiple scans or scenes and then bring those back in.

02:43

Okay. And finally here, if we want to remove some of the scan regions we've created, you can just click the X button.

02:50

Now, it'll ask you if you want to remove just the region or the region and the points that belong to that region.

02:56

So that gives you an option there to remove points as you go along as well.

03:03

It'll take a second to process and we'll take those out.

03:05

So if I delete this work zone with the points and region, those will be removed from the scene here.

03:16

And then if I wanted to undo that, I can also just do a Control Z and bring that back.

03:23

And that concludes this course on an introduction to ReCap Professional.

03:27

Thank you for watching.
