This is a practice exercise video solution.
00:07
For this practice, we will be using the FSAE upright.F3D.
00:12
In manufacture, we have OP1 and a lot of toolpaths already created.
00:16
Now we want to go in and we want to create the drilling operations that are located around the part.
00:22
We have an 8 mm hole, and we have two 6 mm holes.
00:26
So to get started, I'm going to go into drill.
00:30
I'm going to select the appropriate drill size, and I'll do this by going into the sample tools metric,
00:36
looking for hole making specifically for drill bits.
00:40
And then we want to use a 6 mm and an 8 mm drill bit.
00:44
So as we go through the list, we will scroll down until we find 6 mm to start.
00:49
We're going to be using it for aluminium drilling.
00:52
And then we need to go to our geometry tab and start by selecting our tool orientation.
00:58
The first 6 mm hole is going to be over here.
01:00
So I'm going to select this end face to set my coordinate system.
01:05
Notice Z X and Y rotate.
01:08
If we deselect this, I want to make sure we understand exactly how everything is rotating.
01:13
When we select Z, it's flipping the Y over.
01:17
So I'm going to flip the Z axis and flip the X axis.
01:22
Making sure that the orientation that we're going from and to is just rotating about one axis.
01:29
From here, we need to select the whole position, and we're going to be drilling all the way through the bottom.
01:34
So I'm going to go to a specific selected face, and I'm going to grab this bottom face.
01:42
Notice when I do that, I have no preview on the screen.
01:45
So instead of selecting the whole faces, we can do selected points.
01:50
We go and rotate around, and we select the bottom here.
01:53
Now we get the preview on the screen, showing us exactly where we're drilling.
01:58
We have to remember that all the stock is still in the middle here, and we're only drilling this bottom portion in the preview.
02:04
So for our heights, we need to make sure that the top of the part is not the whole top but rather a selection.
02:11
This way it's going to be drilling that hole section and making sure that we go all the way through the bottom.
02:17
I'm going to say drill tip through bottom and add an additional positive offset of .06.
02:23
I'm going to say 'okay' and because I want to use that same drill bit, I'm going to right click on drill one, and I'm going to duplicate it.
02:31
On my duplicate operation, we will select Edit.
02:34
We're going to rotate around, resetting our whole position and our coordinate system.
02:40
So we're going to deselect the face option for Z, and this time we're going to select this face.
02:45
Once again we want to make sure we note the orientation of the coordinate system.
02:49
We've rotated about X and about Y.
02:54
Next we want to make sure that we select the whole position.
02:58
And again in this case, we want to make sure that we select the bottom.
03:01
But note in this instance that we don't have a clean selection for the whole bottom.
03:06
So I'm going to select the whole top.
03:09
Then I need to go to my heights and select the starting and ending position.
03:14
In this case instead of whole bottom, I'm going to go to a selection, and I'm going to make it come all the way down to this edge.
03:21
For my starting position, we're going to go from a selection.
03:25
We want to clear our selection, and we want to select the top of this face.
03:31
Right now we're not doing any peck drilling operations.
03:34
We are simply drilling all the way through and noting that the pockets have not been cleared yet.
03:38
This is going to make sure that the drill bit doesn't wander as we drill through this geometry,
03:43
and it'll have a small cavity when we go in to clear out those pockets.
03:47
Last we have an 8 mm hole.
03:49
I'm going to duplicate this operation one more time.
03:54
And in the duplicate, we're going to change the tool and the coordinate system, so we'll select.
03:60
Once again, we'll go into the sample tools metric under hole making and drilling.
04:05
And we're going to search for an 8 mm drill bit.
04:09
Once we find our 8 mm drill bit, we then want to go to our geometry,
04:14
clear our selected point and clear our coordinate system.
04:18
We're going to reset Z, noting that we want to make sure that we understand how Z rotates.
04:26
In this case, if we want to flip X or Y, we can simply check the preview on the screen to make sure the orientation is correct.
04:33
For our hole point, we will select the bottom of the hole.
04:36
And once again we need to alter our selections for the top and for the bottom of the hole.
04:47
Then we're going to make sure that we are offsetting, and we can select 'okay'.
04:52
If we zoom back out to top, you can see that we have our first position drilling, our second position drilling and our third position drilling.
05:00
I'm going to go back to a home view and save this before moving on.
