To fully understand the modeling and simulation capabilities of FlexSim, it is important to be able to replicate a real-life scenario.
00:13
In this course,
00:14
you will build an example that combines and configures multiple elements across a Process Flow
00:19
and 3D model of an order fulfillment center.
00:23
At the end of this course, you will be able to configure activities and object properties,
00:29
as well as build the logic to simulate order consolidation in a warehouse.
00:35
Here, you can assume that this example order fulfillment center receives orders at any time of day.
00:42
Each order is comprised of a specific number of items located anywhere within a large warehouse.
00:50
To represent this process, six pick areas are built into the model, shown by the six conveyors.
00:58
While the item storage racks are not shown, you can imagine that each conveyor leads to a series of racks where the items are stored.
01:08
Team members pick the items in their respective areas,
01:12
then place them on the conveyors, where the items are then conveyed to one of three pack stations.
01:18
When an order is placed, it is assigned a specific slot in one of the three racks called a put wall.
01:26
Put walls allow an Operator to retrieve an item from the conveyor and place it in the assigned rack for the order.
01:34
Each of the items for that order go to the same put wall.
01:39
When all items for an order are placed in the put wall, then the order is considered complete;
01:46
a tote is generated for packing, and the pack operator is notified to pack the order.
01:53
The pack operator packs the items and places the completed order on the conveyor.
01:59
To accurately simulate this process, you will need to set up multiple aspects of a process flow that drive the simulation in the 3D model.
02:09
This includes the order and pick setup,
02:13
the put wall slot reservations,
02:18
tracking picks through the model,
02:22
packing the picks in a tote,
02:24
and avoiding jams with photo eyes.
02:28
Building these aspects of the process allows you to understand how to configure properties and parameters,
02:35
use lists, apply labels, use objects, control operators, set up triggers, and more to replicate a multi-faceted process in FlexSim.
