Download the Advance Steel plugin

Any referenced datasets can be downloaded from "Module downloads" in the module overview.

Download the Autodesk Advance Steel extension for Autodesk Revit - Exercise

Task 1: Install the plugin using the Autodesk Desktop App (users who have Admin rights on their machines)

  1. Make sure your Revit software is not running.
  2. From the notification area on the lower right of your computer, click on the Autodesk Desktop App, as shown below.


    On doing so, the Autodesk Desktop App window is opened. If you are already logged in, this window opens in the My products and tools tab, as shown below. If you are not logged in, make sure you log in using your Autodesk credentials.

  3. From the top left in this window, click My updates. All the available updates are displayed, as shown below.

  4. From the Advance Steel Extension for Revit 2021 update, click Update. The process of installing the plugin starts. Once the update is installed, you can start using the plugin.

Task 2: Download the plugin from the Autodesk Account Management page (users who do not have Admin rights on their machines)

  1. Log on to the manage.autodesk.com page using your Autodesk credentials.
  2. From the top left of the window, click All Products and Services, as shown below.

  3. Scroll to the Revit section and expand it.
  4. For the version of Revit you are working with, click View Downloads, as shown below.

  5. On the window that is displayed, click Updates & Add-ons and download the Advance Steel Extension for Revit 20XX where 20XX is the version of Revit you are working with. The figure below shows this plugin for Revit 2021.

  6. Once downloaded, install this plugin and your Autodesk Revit program is ready for BIM data exchange with Autodesk Advance Steel.
