Adding Pier Reinforcing

Now that we have these bridge components fully brought into Revit and they are mapped to something Revit can understand, we can start adding reinforcing. In this segment, I’d like to reinforce a single pier using cage reinforcing.

- Open the model you have been working in.

- Go to the south elevation.

- On the View tab, click the Section button.

- In the Properties dialog, select the Detail option.

- Place the section similar to the spot shown below, and in the direction the arrow is indicating.

- Select the crop region and drag it up so you can see the two piers as shown below:

 
- Change the scale to ¾” and rename it to PIER-1 PLAN DETAIL.

- Select the pier.

- Click the Rebar button.

 

- Click OK if you get a dialog talking about Rebar shape definitions.

- Click Sketch Rebar.

 

- Select the pier again.

- Change the bar to a #10

- Sketch in a bar similar to the one shown below (or if you want a different configuration altogether, go right ahead).

- Click the green Finish checkmark.

- Set the Detail Level to Fine.

  

- Select the rebar you just added.

- Change the layout to Maximum Spacing and the Spacing to 1’-0”.

   

- Repeat the steps 8 – 18 and add a bar that looks like the illustration below:

 

- Select the pier, and click the Rebar button.

- In the Rebar Shape Browser, select the shape 01 as shown below.

- Place two bars in the configuration below (to get the horizontal one, place the vertical one first then hit the space bar).

 

- Select the bars and change the spacing to Maximum Spacing at 12”.

- Let’s add some vertical bars now. Select the pier and click the Rebar Button.

- In the Rebar shape Browser, select the 00 shape.

- Click the Perpendicular to Cover button.

- Under Rebar Set, change the Layout to Fixed Number and select 3

- Place the bars as shown below.

 

- Now add two bars set to single spacing as shown below

- Once they are placed, select the bars with the spacing of 3, and drag the bars inside of the other bars. See below:

- For practice repeat these steps on the other pier.

- Save the project.
