Hopefully, you're getting the gist here.

Revit doesn't really discern between presentation quality and production quality. The model is the model.
00:17
Any view can be a drawing on a sheet or an image on a presentation board. They all come from the same place. It's the beauty of Revit.
00:26
That way, when we update something, if it's on a presentation board, it gets updated.
00:31
If it's on a drawing sheet, it gets updated.
00:34
What we should do, though, is when we finally massage a view to look exactly how we like it, we really should save those settings somewhere.
00:43
That way we can apply those settings to a view later down the road.
00:49
The objective of this video is to create View Templates.
00:52
That way we can quickly switch between presentation and production.
00:57
Let's jump into Revit. Let's open our Architectural plan.
01:02
I know I keep doing this each video. I just want you to get used to opening up a file shared project.
01:13
Okay, it lands in any view. That's fine.
01:17
This is actually a good view. So I want to set some standards for our Elevations.
01:23
Let's scroll down until we find "Elevations".
01:28
Let's go to "FIRST FLOOR PHARMACY NORTH". It's kind of silly looking.
01:34
We have shadows, just a countertop and a sink.
01:38
But we have the settings we want. Remember, we turned off our structural model.
01:44
We kept our levels turned on. We turned shadows on and we made it realistic.
01:51
Whatever. We did a bunch of stuff.
01:54
Since I like these settings, I'm going to right click on "FIRST FLOOR PHARMACY NORTH".
02:03
I am going to create "View Template" from "View".
02:12
My name here will be "Elevation_Presentation".
02:21
Then we'll click "OK".
02:25
Now what happens is we get our View Templates dialogue. Does this look familiar?
02:31
It should. This is our Visibility Graphic overrides.
02:34
So, for example, we can include or exclude anything we want.
02:41
So, if we wanted everything to be identical except for the View Scale, we could uncheck that.
02:49
Let's keep it checked on at this point and all of our Visibility Graphics are fine.
02:55
There's another way to get to this dialogue. But I'm gonna show you in a second.
02:59
So, we have our Elevation presentation. Click "OK". Let's go to Pharmacy West.
03:08
I'd like this to be on our presentation.
03:11
So, right click on FIRST FLOOR PHARMACY WEST. Let's apply Template Properties.
03:19
Let's go to Elevation presentation, click "OK". Boom!
03:27
Changes the scale, gets rid of all the stuff we turned off, changes all of our view control settings. Sweet.
03:37
Let's go back to that Pharmacy East. I'm not digging it.
03:44
It's got some extra stuff in here, so I'm gonna go to my Visibility Graphics.
03:49
Either I'll click Visibility Graphics here or I'll type VG. And go to Revit Links.
03:56
I want to keep my Structural turned on, you know, you really should.
03:60
So, let's just go to Host View, this stuff I want to turn off, but I still want to coordinate. For basics, let's go to Custom.
04:10
For Annotation, Annotation Categories, let's go to Custom,
04:16
let's go to Levels and just turn those off because they're annoying.
04:21
Hit Apply, hit "OK". Hit "OK". I'm gonna drag that out a little bit.
04:30
Drag that up, drag that out. Drag that down.
04:39
Change my Detail Level to Fine. Now I'm gonna create a View Template from here.
04:46
I'm going to right click, Create View Template from View.
04:50
I'm gonna call it PRODUCTION_ELEVATION.
04:58
Hit "OK". Everything looks good here. Click "OK".
05:05
Now, if I go to South, I can right click, apply Template Properties, Elevation presentation.
05:15
You know, I don't like the name of it, so I'm just gonna simply rename it to Presentation Elevation.
05:25
That way we're consistent. Click "OK". Apply Properties.
05:32
You will go to that, select Production Elevation, apply Properties. It changes to that. Perfect.
05:41
Now, what I'd like to do is make it so people are forced to use this.
05:46
In our Properties, let's scroll down until we find View Template.
05:54
Click where it says None. I want this Elevation to always be Production_Elevation.
06:05
If we select Assign View Template by clicking on View Template here, click Apply, click "OK".
06:14
Notice that if we try to change the scale or anything about this View, can't do it.
06:23
That way, we can control all of these by simply going to our View Templates.
06:29
So, what's gonna happen is if we were to change a View Template and it's reading the View Template here,
06:35
they will automatically change your views.
06:38
If it's not assigned a View Template like all of the others, it's not going to change it.
06:44
We can still apply our Template Properties, it's just not gonna update automatically.
06:49
So, if we go to our FIRST FLOOR PHARMACY NORTH and we apply our Presentation Elevation,
06:56
click Apply, click "OK", we're good.
06:59
But now if we go to View Templates,
07:03
Manage View Templates, find Presentation Elevation.
07:12
For Shadows, we click Edit, uncheck Cast Shadows,
07:19
but let's cast ambient shadows.
07:23
Click Apply, click "OK", click "OK".
07:29
It's gonna get rid of our shadows, but it's going to give us those cool kind of ambient shadows.
07:34
So, there we go. Now we have complete control over our views.

So, there we go. Now we have complete control over our views.
With our sections and elevations created, we should stop repeating going into visibility graphics and constantly turning stuff on and off. Let’s just do that one more time and apply it to some views.
To create a view template, follow along with these steps.
