Modeling sloped piping in Revit - Exercise
In this practice, you will create a run of sloped piping for a sanitary system and correct the view range in the plan view so all the sloped piping displays.
- Open the practice file 001-Small Medical Center-Create Slope.rvt.
- In the Project Browser, right-click on the 01 Ground Floor Plumbing Plan, click Duplicate View > Duplicate.
- Rename the new view to 01 Ground Floor Sanitary Plan.
- Zoom in on the exam rooms and review the existing sink fixtures and sanitary piping.
- In the System Tab > Plumbing and Piping panel, click Pipe.
- In the Modify | Place Pipe tab in the Sloped Piping area select Slope Down and set the Slope Value to 1/8"/12".
- In the Options bar set the Diameter to 3" and the Middle Elevation to (negative) -1'-0".
- In the Type Selector set the Pipe Types to PVC-DWV.
- In Properties, verify that the System Type is set to Sanitary. (The System Type needs to be set because you are drawing pipe that is not connected to any plumbing fixture.)
- Draw the pipe down between the sinks and out of the building as shown by the arrows below.
- Some of the pipe is not showing and a warning displays as shown below.
- Open the 3D Plumbing view. You can see that the new sanitary piping exists and there is existing sanitary piping connected to the nearby restrooms.
- Return to the 01 Ground Floor Sanitary Plan to correct the View Range issue.
- In the Properties palette, scroll down to the Extents Group and select the Edit button beside View Range. You can also type VR as the shortcut to open this dialog box.
- In the View Range dialog box select the Show button so you can see the Sample View Range. Review the parts of the key and which options you can change.
- Change the Primary Range Top to 6'-0" and click Apply. Move the dialog box so you can see that
the hot and cold water pipes in the ceiling are no longer showing in this view. - Change the Cut plane to 1'-0" and click Apply. This removes all the plumbing fixtures except the water closets which are on the floor. Change the Cut plane back to 4'-0" so you can see the sinks.
- Change the Primary Range Bottom depth to Unlimited and click Apply.
- Read the warning and, back in the dialog box, change the View Depth Level to Unlimited as well as shown below.
- Click OK and your new sanitary plan updates with the new View Range focusing on the sanitary systems as shown below.
- Save the project.
