Sectioning the model and performing measurements - Exercise
Task 1: Sectioning the Revit model using a section plane
- From the Project Files > Shared > Architecture folder, open the Revit model.
- From the bottom left, tap on the Section button labeled as 1 in the following figure and then tap on the z section option labeled as 2 in the following figure.
- Tap on the section arrow and drag it up and down to locate the section plate, as shown in the following figure.
- Drag the Blue or Red edge to rotate the section plane, refer to the video.
- Tap on the Section button on the bottom left to turn off the sectioning.
Task 2: Sectioning the Revit model using a section plane
- From the bottom left, tap on the Section button and then tap on the section box option labeled as 1 in the following figure.
- Tap on any face of the section box and drag the arrow to scale the section box in that direction, as shown in the following figure.
- Drag the triad on the top right of the section box to move it.
- Similarly, resize the section box and navigate around the model to review the sectioned model.
- On the bottom left, tap on the Section option again to turn off sectioning.
Task 3: Performing measurements in the 3D view
- From the bottom of the window, tap Measure.
- Tap on the Settings option on the top right, as shown in the following figure.
- Set the measurement units and precision to your preferred values.
- Tap on < on the left of the Settings panel to hide that panel.
- Tap and hold down a finger near the corner point shown in the following figure to display the magnified view, as shown below.
- Snap to the endpoint, as shown in the figure above.
- Similarly, snap to the corner point on the other side to measure the length value, as shown in the following figure.
- Similarly, measure other values.
- Tap on X on the top left to exit the measurement environment.
Task 4: Performing measurements in the 2D view
- From the top right, tap on
and then tap on Sheets & Views.
- Tap on A101 – GROUND FLOOR to open this 2D view.
- From the bottom of the view, tap Measure.
- Using the method discussed above, tap on two points at an angle to measure the shortest distance between those two points and also the delta X and Y values, as shown in the following figure.
- Similarly, perform other measurements.
- Tap on X on the top left to exit the measurement environment.
Task 5: Performing measurements in the PDF files
- From the Plans > PDF Files folder, tap on the GA03 sheet to open this PDF sheet, as shown in the following figure.
- From the bottom of the window, tap Measure. You are prompted to calibrate the sheet.
- Tap OK in the prompt window.
- Zoom close to the top of Grid A.
- Tap and hold down the finger close to the top endpoint of Grid A to snap close to the top endpoint, as shown in the following figure.
- Pan across and tap down snap close to the top endpoint of Grid B to define the second point of calibration, as shown in the following figure.
- Enter 14'11 as the value in the value field and then tap Calibrate on the top right, as shown in the following figure.
- Now tap on various points to perform distance, angle, and area measurements. The following figure shows an area measurement.
